Ranjit Dhaliwal MD, FRCSC, FACS
Dr. Dhaliwal is an ophthalmology specialist (Eye MD) with decades of experience in the evaluation and treatment of retinal diseases. He has been in medical practice since 1985 with the exception of time spent returning to complete his specialty certification in Ophthalmology at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario followed by two separate fellowships in Medical Retina (at the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute of the Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland) and in Vitreoretinal Surgery (at the Barnes Hospital campus of the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri). Dr. Dhaliwal was on the clinical faculty of the University of Toronto Department of Ophthalmology before relocating to Augusta, GA in 1994.
Dr. Dhaliwal is currently on the clinical faculty of Queen’s University Department of Ophthalmology, in Kingston Ontario, and is on the adjunct faculty of the Emory University Department of Ophthalmology in Atlanta, Georgia.
His interests and dedication to the field of vitreoretinal diseases of the eye have resulted in many peer-reviewed published articles in prestigious ophthalmic medical journals. Dr. Dhaliwal has authored several book chapters and presents regularly at several symposia and conferences throughout the country.
Dr. Dhaliwal was born on the west coast (Vancouver, BC, Canada) and raised in central British Columbia. He returned to Vancouver after high school where he obtained early admission to medical school and ultimately his medical degree at The University of British Columbia (UBC, Vancouver, BC). He subsequently completed a mixed medical/surgical internship at the University of Toronto and then additional residency training in Internal Medicine at UBC. For three years he then practiced comprehensive medicine in solo practice in Northern Canada. This was followed by a return to complete his Ophthalmological surgical training at Queen’s University (at Kingston, Ontario, Canada).
Dr. Dhaliwal then completed two additional years of subspecialty training in macular, retinal, and vitreous diseases at the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute of Johns Hopkins University Hospital (Baltimore, Maryland) and at Retina Consultants Inc in the Barnes Hospital campus of Washington University School of Medicine (St. Louis, Missouri). During this time he co-authored original articles on the then-emerging fields of Indocyanine Green Angiography and in Subfoveal Retinal Surgery.
